Community & Development Services (CDS) Advisory Boards help advise the county commissioners on matters concerning land use, planning, variances and other matters relevant to their purposes.
The Board of Adjustment (BoA) is a board that considers granting variances in cases where a property owner cannot meet the standards in their zoning; to consider granting special exceptions for temporary activities and may be asked to consider appeals of the CDS Director's written decisions, determinations and interpretations on administrative applications. The BoA is created by state statute and appointed by the Board of County Commissioners.
The Planning Commission shall act as an advisory board to the Board of County Commissioners. The Planning Commission typically makes a recommendation on a land use case which is then sent to the Board of County Commissioners for a final decision.
