The Election Department as the designated election official is responsible for coordinating, preparing, and processing all general, primary and coordinated election in Elbert County. It is the intent of this Department to ensure the integrity of all elections and to provide the opportunity for all eligible lectors to participate in the democratic process.





  • UOCAVA Voters
    UOCAVA electors are:
    1. Member of the Uniformed Services or Merchant Marines on Active Duty absent from the State.
    2. An Eligible Spouse or Dependent of the above.
    3. A U.S. Citizen residing outside the U.S. temporarily.
    4. A U.S. citizen residing outside the U.S. indefinitely (federal ballot only).


Election Judges serve a vital role in protecting the rights of voters. They are responsible for ensuring that the electoral process is administered fairly and according to federal and state law.

Qualifications

Election Judges must meet the following qualifications by the date of the election they are scheduled to work:
  • Be a U.S. Citizen
  • Be a registered elector who resides in Douglas County
  • Be at least 18 years old (students 16 and older can be Student Election Judges)
  • Be willing to serve on Election Day for the entire process
  • Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of an Election Judge
  • Attend a mandatory Election Judge class prior to each election they work
  • Never been convicted of any election offense or any type of fraud
  • Not be related to any candidate on the ballot

Student Election Judges must meet the following requirements before the date of the election at which they are scheduled to work:
  • Be a U.S. citizen
  • Be a Junior or Senior in a Douglas County public or private high school
  • Be at least 16 years old
  • Be willing to serve on Election Day for the entire process
  • Be physically and mentally able to perform the duties of an Election Judge
  • Attend mandatory Election Judge training prior to each election in which they are working
  • Not be related to any candidate on the ballot
  • Have written consent of a parent of legal guardian
  • Have the approval of their school's principal or designated administrator
  • Have a Social Security Number

General Requirements
  • Must be able to sit for long periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift a minimum of 25 pounds.
  • Must be good at multi tasking and problem solving.
  • Must have good people skills.
  • Must have dependable transportation.


How do I become an Election Judge?

  • Through the Caucus process by submitting your name to the precinct leader who submits the list of names to the Party Chair and then to the County Clerk's office.
  • By completing the Election Judge Application below and submitting it to the County Clerk's office. All applications are reviewed and, upon assessment of Election Judge, staffing needs, a certification, and notice of training letter is sent to the applicant.
