Victim Assistance
Victim Assistance Program
Becoming a victim of crime is one of the most stressful events a person can experience. Victims and those around them may experience physical, emotional, or financial harm that is difficult to cope with. After a traumatic event, Elbert County's advocates are here to help. The Victim Assistance Program provides:
- Crisis intervention, grief support, criminal justice system support and advocacy
- Information about and referral to community resources
- Education on the dynamics of victimization and trauma
Advocates are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
Community Education
Because crime not only affects individual victims, but the whole community, our Victim Assistance program provides community education focusing on victim issues and the needs of those in crisis. We:
- Train local law enforcement personnel on victims' rights legislation
- Assist schools with intervention after school crises
- Facilitate community-wide campaigns during National Domestic Violence Awareness Month and National Crime Victims' Rights Awareness Week
