Permits
All Building Permit Applications must be submitted digitally by emailing buildingdepartment@elbertcounty-co.gov
Current review time for building permits is 4-6 weeks from a complete submittal for all residential, accessory, and commercial projects. Simple permits may take 3-5 business days.
All building permits must be designed to meet 2018 I Codes. Please review the design criteria table for more information.
It shall be the sole responsibility of the property owner and/or permit holder to verify all utilities and easements including water, sewer, well, septic, electric, phone, cable, fiber optic, and gas prior to excavation or construction of any structure.
For New Residence and ADUs impact fees may be due. You are responsible for reaching out to your fire and school district to pay applicable fees. For information on the impact fees the County collects please reach out to Planning at cds@elbertcounty-co.gov .

Alterations to Residence
Accessory or "Group U" permits include all accessory structures such as barns, sheds, decks, green houses, swimming pools and more.
Any structure greater than 1280sqft, monolithic foundations greater than 750sqft, steel frame buildings, second story decks over 14' high or with a covering will require engineer stamped plans.
Any additions onto existing structures will require engineer letter verifying roof loads regardless of size.
Trusses must be engineered regardless of size.
Simple permits typically do not require plan review and usually have a turn around time of 1-5 business days.
